Married to Harry Hields, Chief Engineer at Gipton Fire Station in 1937
Violet born into a family of miners with 12 siblings, started working at the age of 13 and her first job was at Collinsons Restaurant as a waitress and then she moved to the shoe trade.
Renowned for her great sense of humour and ability to mimic, Violet sadly retired from the fire service due to illness and the stresses that is the daily life of the firefighter.
