“A copy of this book was given to every Essex school child on the occasion of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. I wasn’t very impressed with it! I defaced it on the first page by my awful writing for which I was told off…but I said ‘It’s my book!’

We moved up to Yorkshire that summer and so did this book. I wonder how many have survived…”
